Nutella and I have decided to take the day off, along with Curly, so that we can all do a family activity together. The weather is just so nice that we feel the need to play hooky. Recently, Nutella and I have been discussing getting new tattoos (her second, my fourth). Normally we get tattoos to mark major life events, or some major change within ourselves. Over the past year, that change has obviously been becoming mothers, and we’d like to mark it. At first we were thinking of different motherhood symbols, but then it dawned on us…why don’t we both get a little cupcake tattoo? Since we’ve always referred to Curly as our “cupcake”, it will always mean something to us and should be pretty cute as well.

A friend of ours is a tattoo artist that works at a shop downtown. We spoke to her this week to see if she could do the tattoos later today, and she’s happy to do it. We had another request for her though… would she give Curly the same cupcake tattoo? She was a bit hesitant at first, but eventually agreed. She’ll be the only artist in the shop today so she doesn’t have to worry about what her manager will think.

We know some people will think giving a baby a tattoo is cruel, but to them I say, what about ear piercing? People do that to babies all the time…sometimes it’s a cultural thing. This is not that much different. It’s such a little tattoo that it should take less than 10 minutes. The only thing we have to strongly consider is placement, since he’s still got a lot of growing to do. Perhaps on his ankle?
